Spectrum Thin Films Open House
Tony Pirera, fellow AOSNY club member, is graciously opening his doors of Spectrum Thin Films to the members of the Amateur Observers’ Society of New York and ASLI on Saturday May 21, 2022. Members will be treated to a tour of his facility and an interesting lecture about on his optical coatings. Tony developed his interest in astronomy at a young age due to his exposure to astronomy clubs at the age of 8. This interest took him down paths of making his own telescopes, making his own mirrors, and simply staring in amazement at the day and nighttime skies. Ultimately leading him to a successful career in coatings.
Spectrum Thin Films is an optical coating laboratory that does optical coatings for the space program (NASA), universities, medical, military, science, observatories, and other applications. His work in optical coatings has been quite prolific, from supplying local camera filter companies such as Tiffen, to putting his coatings on the planet Mars. In fact, NASA discovered water on Mars utilizing a lens with optical coatings made by Tony’s company. So join us as we visit one of our own living accomplishments. Members may also enjoy some coffee, tea, soda and desserts.
Please RSVP to Tony’s email.
