Events

The Amateur Observers’ Society is an active Long Island astronomy club that hosts both members-only astronomy events, such as star parties, at locations exclusive to our membership. The club has organized some fun group outings too. Our behind-the-scenes tour of the meteorite collection at New York City’s Rose Center for Earth and Space, the bus trip to see the “Museum of the Moon” at Philadelphia’s Franklin Institute, and the annual Astronomy Festival on the National Mall in Washington, DC are three memory makers for our members.

During major celestial events like the 2012 Transit of Venus and the 2019 Transit of Mercury, AOSNY members arranged for club member gatherings at prime viewing locations on Long Island. The Amateur Observers’ Society also participates in astronomy outreach programs open to the public, such as Eisenhower Park’s Music Under the Stars and Stars on Sunday at Hofstra University. Our club members love to volunteer their time and telescopes at various Long Island astronomy events for other organizations such as the Scouts and area civic groups. If you’d like to attend one of our astronomy events or have an idea for including AOSNY in one of yours, please feel free to contact us.
